The cathedral interior is immediately striking with how bright it is, with white marble gleaming from every surface. The interior marble came primarily from Marble, Colorado, with the marble for the altars, pulpit, and statuary imported from Carrara, Italy.
Gorgeous Stained Glass
The Cathedral features 75 monumental stained glass windows, designed and crafted by F.X. Zettler at the Royal Bavarian Art Institute in Munich, Germany.
F.X. Zettler was a chemist known for his ability to craft vivid colors and dyes, and he oversaw the 50 artisans who crafted the cathedral windows. Sadly, the firm and its secret for exquisite stained glass were destroyed in World War II.
Soaring Gothic Arches
At the top of each interior column, a trinity of ribs spring from a cluster of marble wheat and grapes. These ribs support the Gothic vaulted ceiling.
